Sound: Mixing sounds just fine. Moving on!

Composition: Composition is pretty good, although does get a tad bit repetitive. The use of instruments is nice and keeps it interesting.

Fit to Art: This track definitely fits the art quite well, from the genre to the song itself. It's a colorful track with a dash of awesome, and I definitely feel it.

Originality: This is a unique sounding track, although not the most original either. Still no loss here.

DESHIEL responds:

thanks. :)

Sound: Mixing is pretty solid. I don't know how I feel about the vocals, just because I feel like they should be more prominent, however perhaps that's just my preference.

Composition: I particularly enjoyed the composition on this one and also the lyrics. Honestly well done, I quite enjoyed the song! The mix of electronic and screamo is pretty awesome.

Fit to Art: I don't know how well this song fits the art. It's not the first thing that comes to mind when looking at the art because the art's color palette and overall tone is much calmer than the song suggests. However I can definitely see how the song will fit. Interesting take.

Originality: Major props here. A different approach to the art paired from what most would do, and the execution is pretty interesting as well!

Lich responds:

Thanks for the review.

I didn't distort the vocals enough in this piece, that's why it sounds like it's not prominent enough. If I turned the distortion right up, it would sound just like the vocal-work in 'The Outlier'.

Sound: Mixing is solid.

Composition: Structure is well done, and it keeps the song fresh and not repetitive throughout. Use of the vocal samples was really well done.

Fit to Art: Well this track gave me shivers. The use and manipulation of vocal samples fits the art so well and conveys the feel of the image. The piano and dark sounding bass do their parts excellently to also help this along. I would say you nailed it down and then staple gunned it down a few times for good measure.

Originality: Definitely also scores in the originality department as the approach and execution were pretty interesting.

Quarl responds:

Thanks dude.

Sound: Mixing sounds pretty solid. The Choirs definitely need work on the attack to not sound so synthesized.

Composition: A very standard and classical form in composition, so nothing wrong here. Classical or in this case Baroque music theory works pretty well. Of course, for the modern sentiments of music, this track is also slightly sleep inducing as most pieces of that style are.

Fit to Art: No doubt about it this piece fits the art paired with it quite well. The choirs and organs are an excellent choice of instruments and the melody and harmonies do convey the image well.

Originality: While there is nothing novel to the style in this song, I find there is quite some originality in that you decided to pick this style for the art piece.

SoundChris responds:

Thanks a lot for your review! I definitely will try to improve the sound of the choir, experiment with the reverb settings and the attack and releases in the futere- new system makes it possible. So i agree with that issues concerning the choir!

I dont think that classical or baroque music is slightly sleep inducing. I didnt notice it for a very long time, but e.g. jazz has already begun @ J.S. Bach. If you look at the three-voiced preludes / fuges of the second book of bachs well tempred piano and their structure then just combine groups of 4 or 8 notes to chords and you will have unbelievable impressive jazz chords. I didnt believe it myself until i tried it out but i guarantee it is worth a look - trust me! This stuff can be extremely inspiring and there are lots of great ideas you can get out of that material - no matter what kind of genre you are composing for. But you are right that a lot of people dont think this style of music to be very interesting.

Thanks a lot for your review and all the Best!

Sound: No mixing issues at hand here.

Composition: A decently simple composition with a simple structure. That would also be its weakness as the song gets repetitive by the middle. There's also not a big variance in sound between the instruments, so the sections kind of blend together.

Fit to Art: The track fits the art very well, and I'd say it conveys exactly what's in the art. This would be the main strength of this piece is how well it pairs with the art.

Originality: Not much originality here, pretty straightforward take on the art and nothing new to the genre.

xxxZigZagxxx responds:

Thanks for your thoughts. The song does get repetitious. I should try adding more interesting variance, release and tension. It does pair with the art well, I thought. Originality wasn't really a goal, but I can see where you're coming from in that it uses electronic cliches. I'll try to reach outside my comfort zone more. Thanks.

Sound: Nothing out of place here, but then again it's 8Bit, so not much that can go wrong usually.

Composition: This track has a pretty repetitive song structure to it, and as such sounds quite repetitive. The sound effects were nice and I think they were used nicely.

Fit to Art: Now automatically, this fits somewhat well being an 8Bit track to an "8Bit" artpiece. However I will say that's where it ends. The track is a lot more active and jumpy which is not the feeling that I think the art conveys. The art feels a lot more pensive.

Orignality: Can't say there's much originality here. Made an 8bit track for an 8bit art, so neither genre or approach are novel.

xxxZigZagxxx responds:

Thanks :D

Sound: Decent mixing over all, the bass ends could use some work.

Composition: Decent structure, however the song did start sounding repetitive near the end. However I do love your use of sounds. It is deliciously grungy and dark.

Fit to Art: Here's where I think your song lacks. As a standalong song, it works wonderful. However paired with the art, I think it lacks in conveying the feel of the robot/cyborg depicted within the art.

Originality: Nothing too new here, actually kind of sounds like another DnB type piece.

Ending thoughts: A nice stand alone track, maybe less repetition though.

DESHIEL responds:

I understand that the track is difficult to pair with the designed art to some people.
That is why I described the idea behind the composition in the description.

The music is based on the art, but is actualy depicting the protagonist in a certain situation.

Thank you for your review, even tho its your job. ;D

Sound: There's a little clipping, but overall not a bad mix.

Composition: Okay, the composition on this song is wonderful! The structure is great and tells a very good story, from the intro to the first part to the piano break and then afterwards to the ending which reflected the opening. In addition, you did a great job of making the instruments work together!

Fit to Art: Personally I think you did a great job of conveying what the art does, with the rainbow colors of the art your synths were great in showing us that. Your piano parts were wonderful in showing us what the guy in the picture could be feeling.

Originality: Certainly not a generic sounding song, and I do like the mix of synths and piano. Not bad. You get some points here too. :)

Ending Thoughts: Great piece! Work on the clipping and it's gold. :)

FrankMunoz responds:

Oh my, tyty
I also feel the same towards my mastering. really wish I had spent more time on this, I was in such a rush for no reason. :(

Sounds: Nothing wrong here with mixing. Moving on!

Composition: This track has a good progression. It starts off very tame and definitely has a good build while maintaining a consistent motif and theme. Well structured. The addition of instruments and layers is good. Weak outro though.

Fit to Art: Win win! From the intro with the steam sound that continues throughout to the grungy bass instrument and the lead instrument, this track really does convey to me the feel of the art paired with it. The atmospheric sounds added are a very nice touch also.

Originality: Can't say that this track is particularly original in any way, yet it's not too generic either, so no bonuses or losses here.

Ending thoughts: Solid track that's well done to the art!

Yoshiii343 responds:

yay my mixing isn't actually terrible for once

i feel accomplished

Sound: Mixing-wise I don't hear any glaring errors or mistakes. Sounds pretty decent to me, any suggestible changes would be out of personal taste.

Composition: Not a bad composition, a nice use of second intervals to create the "creepy" feel and the addition of the random high pitch tones helped with it too. Song structure-wise it works to keep the song from sounding too repetitive.

Fit to Art: Here's where I think this piece will take a hit on. Out of the entire song, the intro is possibly the part that best fits the art. Everything else after that sounds much too fast and rushed. Which can fit a "being chased" scene. However the feeling conveyed isn't one of being chased by something creepy, but more of just running intensly.

Originality: As some of the other reviews on the song have noted, this song isn't particularly original from the "Go" sample to the generic synths that have been well overused and aren't being used in any particularly novel way now. Not a bad thing if you're going specifically for that style.

Ending thoughts: A solid piece on its own, and the art paired with it sets a great start for it, but needs more.
