A review for you!

Alright, saw your newest song and decided to take some time to review this song.
Not bad over all. It's rather short, and the long silence at the end is rather... long. :P
The song itself is rather simple, so there's not much I can say about it. It's not a bad tune. It repeats itself, but that's alright.
I guess the only thing that I can also say is that perhaps you need to work with the guitars sound more. They don't sound very good. Play around with the mastering a bit, you might get a better sound. I think an EQ might do some good on this. I'd stick away from the compression unless it's used for limiting.

To be honest, I'm still getting used to all the little things in FL Studio. I'm not even close to figuring out what maybe half of the stuff does. :3 I'm just creating miniature tracks to get a feel for what kindof music I wanna make.
I'll sit and listen to them and pick out things I need to work on.

Thanks for the second review. When I make it big, you can say you knew me when I first got started! :D

Punk rock. Nice. :D

Okay, you probably know this by now... I don't listen to punk rock much. >_>; Hence my dumb reply back there on my newspost. Hahaha.......

So I decided to peep in. Glad I did.
I hear two guitars here, and I like the way they work well together. You have a nice melody from 1:54 to 2:14. I really like that melody bit. Of course the other parts of your song is great too!

Although one thing you were able to get to me, is that punk rock can actually sound better than the 2 minute loud monsters that I've heard back a few years from my friends. I guess it goes to show that there is good and bad in every genre, and you're part of the good. : ) 6 minutes and not a boring moment in your song. Very well done.

Great job! You're really good at this. And so is Switch.

P.S. You know... if I ever have time to get around to it.... this would make a great 6 minute orchestral song. :3 I'll see if I can get around to making a classical remix of this. :P

Evil-Dog responds:

haha your reply wasn't dumb, I surely call all kind of electronica music "techno" so don't worry about it :D

It's true that punk rock is usually fast, loud and short and I must admit that it's what I mostly like from punk rock but I also like the more varied tracks. For instance my favorite song ever is Nofx - The Decline, it's a 18 minutes punk song, it's awesome, varied, I recommend you check it out. Also you should check out some Bad Religion, they're one of my favorite band, I consider it "smart punk", they're smart people (the singer is a university teacher) and it shows in their lyrics and the music is really good (yet simple), they do amazing backvocals and all. Check out Bad Religion - Tiny voices just as an example :D

Glad you liked the song :D Thanks for the great review.

ps: Ho....ly.....shit...a classical version, that would be amazing! please do it!!! haha if you have time :)
pps: oh and just for the record, I didn't max out the volumes like I normally would. We went with a just middle between loundess and dynamics :)

So far my favorite remix. :D

Thank you for making this remix!
This review is kind of long overdue. :P
But here it is...

You made excellent use of the melodies that were present in the original song. And you also layered them rather well. Another thing I liked was how you kept a fast beat pace to the entire song.
Great job!

Anytime.

Really nice.

I wasn't much a fan of the vocal samples you used there. However the intro certainly did get me hooked onto the song. It's a great song over all.
Well done and good job.
5/5

NX177 responds:

lol i barely used any vocals at all. thanks anywayzzz. im glad u enjoyed it XD

Hurrah for live recordings!

I'm always a fan of live recordings!
I like the cello. Although I think you could have added a reverb effect to it after you imported it into FL. That and I would've loved to have heard more cello throughout the song. :D
Great job!

-HFX ^_^

Michael425 responds:

Yeah, live recordings are fun and easy.

I might make an orchestral song soon with more live cello in it.

Thanks for the review. Glad you liked it.

Ooh.

The guitars themselves are rather repetitive. But the part that comes in at 0:41 is pretty good, and it would be great if you expanded on that part.
But the one thing about this that really caught my attention were the drums. I really liked your drums.
Really nice. Keep it up!

Wonderful!

I heard the original Metropolis song. It's amazing.
Yet I think yours is better than that one. It's more true to the Megaman songs. Or rather the Megaman X songs. I'm a Megaman X fan. :P
I don't typically listen to heavy metal songs, but this is done really really well and it isn't painful at all to listen to.
Great and wonderful job!

-HFX ^_^

P.S. Just wondering... what do you use for your guitars? Because FL Core has nothing that is good for rock guitar sounds.

Evil-Dog responds:

I use my guitar :D plugged into a Line6 PodXT (a distortion/effect/everything simulator) which is plugged into my computer.
and thanks for compliment, if you ever need some guitar tracks, let me know maybe we can do something about that.
Glad you liked it :)

Nice nice.

Really nicely arranged. I rather like it. It flows smoothly and the melody is nice. Even though it's repeated a lot, it doesn't get boring at all.
Improvements....
The sounds that you used could be better. Namely that brass like synth. It could be a little smoothed out to fit better with the song.
Also, the mastering needs a little work. EQ it a bit and it'll bring the song to life really.
Good job on this song!

-HFX ^_^

Not a bad tune.

It's not a bad tune that you have there, and the arrangement is pretty good.
There are some balance problems though. You threw a lot of the instruments over to the right, and not enough on the left side to balance that out. It kind of throws the listener off. The clap for one, should be balanced on both side. Or if you wanted it panned to the right, have it only panned a little. Same goes for the stick on the left. Both should be brought closer to the center.
Keep working on it.

Kenagi responds:

ahh thanks, im still working on the panning side of things.
ill keep working on it...

however being somone with little money i only have the trial of fruity loops which means i have to make a whole song in one sitting so i wont be able to change this one now.

Repetitive.

Okay.....
The mastering on the song could certainly use work. The instruments sound too digital and a little more mastering is needed to bring them to life. Unless of course you were intending on this sound. Which I can't complain, some video games do have this sound to them.
As for the song itself. The melody is..... somewhat... creepy. Not very though. You didn't put enough into it to make it "creepy". Another thing is that you're repeating the same thing over and over again. Which is totally fine, but you're going to need more variation within your song so that it doesn't bore the audience out.
With that said, you could also make it longer by adding more variation to it. Also, the end to this..... is rather ear hurtful. Organ chord ending is fine... but not so loud.
Keep working on the song.

roojames responds:

Like I've said to others before, I'm afraid I have little to no access to good mastering software, as, not only am I using Linux, it's a rare distribution of it, so I'm afraid what I've got is the best thing available-this sound was not intended. As for your second point, regarding the "creepiness", that was just the best name I could think of at the time. I know it is repetitive. It is one of my curses. When I write a piece, I always seem to add to it instead of change it-so there is always little variation. My "Questin" piece is a slight exception to this. Yeah, sorry about the ending, I don't know what I was thinking. The piece was originally composed for 3 guitars, but as my choice of software has no MIDI compatability, I had to choose from the crappy synths available. Thanks for your honesty though, most bad reviews I get don't give tips on how to improve, but yours does, so I will take these points into account.
